Enchanting Natural Spectacle: Witness thousands of fireflies synchronizing their flashes, illuminating the mangrove trees and making them appear like giant, twinkling "Christmas trees."
Primary Locations: Tours primarily take place on the Abatan River (Cortes/Maribojoc) and the Loboc River (Loay/Loboc).
Eco-Friendly Cruise: Visitors typically board a small, quiet motorized banca boat or an eco-friendly kayak to glide silently along the river. Kayaking offers a more intimate and environmentally sound experience.
Mangrove Ecosystem: The fireflies thrive in the healthy, protected mangrove forests that line the riverbanks. The local guides often share information about the delicate ecosystem.
Why it's unique: It’s a peaceful, responsible way to appreciate Bohol's thriving natural environment and provides a relaxing end to a day of sightseeing.
Time Sensitivity: The tour must be conducted after sunset, typically starting between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM. Punctuality for hotel pickup is essential to catch the optimal viewing time for the fireflies.
Transfers: Round-trip hotel transfers from Panglao Island or Tagbilaran City are typically included in the package price.
Nature Dependent: This is a natural phenomenon. Firefly visibility is highly dependent on weather conditions (humidity, wind, and rain) and the lunar cycle (less firefly light pollution on a new moon).
Cancellation Policy: In the event of extreme or poor weather (heavy rain, strong winds), the tour may be cancelled for safety. You will typically be offered a reschedule or a full refund.
No Guarantee: While highly likely, a massive congregation of fireflies cannot be 100% guaranteed, as it is a wildlife observation activity.
No Flash Photography: Absolutely NO flash photography is allowed during the river cruise. Bright lights (including phone screens and flashlights) disturb the fireflies’ synchronized blinking and communication, potentially harming the colony. Use your eyes to enjoy the experience.
Quiet Environment: Maintain a quiet environment on the boat (whether motorized banca or kayak) to ensure a peaceful experience and avoid disturbing the fireflies and the delicate mangrove ecosystem.
Life Vests: Life vests will be provided and must be worn at all times while on the river for safety.
Insect Repellent: Bring a good mosquito/insect repellent, as the tour takes place along a mangrove river in the evening.
Comfortable Attire: Wear comfortable, preferably long-sleeved clothing, and sensible footwear. A light jacket is recommended as it can get cool on the river at night.
Cash: Bring extra cash for optional tips for your boat guide/driver (gratuities are not mandatory but appreciated) or for any food stops before or after the tour.
